4.4 Design checking
4.4.1
5975-1:2024 clause 12.7.1 states that, the category should be determined at an early stage. In
addition, 5975-1:2024 clause 7.4.1.3, states that the TWD, in consultation with the TWC, should
advise the minimum category of design check. This could be influenced by a third party such as
Network Rail, National Highways or others.
4.4.2
BS 5975-1:2024 clause 12.7.1 states that, the proposed temporary works design should be
checked by a competent person independent from those responsible for the original design.
4.4.3
The competency of temporary work design checker (TWDC) should be greater, and they should
have a higher level of technical and practical proficiency in line with BS 5975-1:2024 clause
4.2.1. They could be a member of the site team, or design team, or an independent company.
4.4.4
Design checks should be undertaken in accordance with BS 5975-1:2024 table 2. The following
table shows examples of structures that could fall within each category. This is for illustration
purposes only.
