4.4 Design checking
4.4.9
On completion of the design and design check, BS 5975-1:2024 clause 12.7.5 states that a
design certificate and design check certificate should be issued for Category 1, 2 and 3. The
design certificates should meet the following criteria. This is for illustration purposes only.
Design certification criteria
1. Statement confirming the design meets the requirements of the design brief
2. State the standards and literature used and whether they’ve been interpreted
properly
3. Lists the constraints and loading conditions
4. Identifies drawings, installation guides and sketches
5. Identifies design specifications used
6. Identifies design and build methodology
7. Signed by designer
8. Signed by design checker
9. Issued to the TWC, and Lead TWD where required

In the event of any queries being raised by the TWDC, BS 5975-1:2024 clause 12.8 provides
guidance on how design queries should be handled and resolved. In summary these are as
