5.3 Bringing temporary works into use
5.3.1
BS 5975-1:2024 clause 13.2.1.2 states that a permit to bring into use should be issued to the
site team prior to allowing use of the temporary works. Those authorised to issue temporary
works permits should be identified in the temporary works implementation plan.

Where the temporary works is under the direct responsibility of the PC’s TWC or the
implementation risk class is high, the PC’s TWC should issue the temporary works permit.
5.3.3
BS 5975-1:2024 clause 13.1.8 states that prior to bringing temporary works into use, the
competent person identified in the temporary works implementation plan should carry out a final
recorded inspection.
5.3.4
The following temporary works register example identifies who issues the temporary works
permit and who carries out the final inspection prior to bringing into use.
BS 5975-1:2024
clause 11.3(e)(h) states the temporary works supervisor (TWS) should carry out checks at
appropriate stages including the final check. However, for complex or innovative designs, BS
5975-1:2024 clause 13.1.8 states this could be the temporary works designer (TWD).
