5.4 Inspecting and testing temporary works
5.4.6
BS 5975-1:2024 does not provide any template documents. The temporary works inspection
and test plan template shown below is available to download from https://mytemporary.works.
All documents can be developed for company use. Note this is a generic template for all types
of temporary works.
Test preparation should
set out the criteria
required
For scaffolding, the following would be

Authorization to proceed
to the next stage in
construction should not

the ground bearing pressure of the foundation
the quality of the base material for ties
the actual tension tie load following pull test
Hold points
5.4.7
BS 5975-1:2024 clause 13.1.4 states that the temporary works implementation plan should
identify where hold points are required and circumstances when a temporary works permit
should be issued to allow progress to the next stage and who should issue it. BS 5975-1:2024
clause 3.1.18 gives a definition of a hold point. The following table gives examples of hold points
in the construction process. This is for illustration only.

Structure
Purpose of the hold point
Scaffolding stabilised
by
a
permanent
structure (existing or
new)
using
construction fixings
Carrying out proof/pull-out
testing of ties to ensure they
have been installed properly
Falsework used for
supporting a variety of
loads
that
will
ultimately
be
supporting the wet
weight of concrete until
it has cured sufficiently
and
become
selfsupporting.
Carrying out quality checks
during stages of loading as
follows:
Who is likely to be involved
-
-
1. People to access
2. Construction of formwork
3. Fabrication
of
steel
reinforcing
4. Pouring concrete
-
-
The scaffolding contractor is
likely to have installed the
fixings and is also likely to test
the fixings
Testing can also be undertaken
by
an
post-installation
independent proof tester for
prior to authoring use
This is likely to be undertaken
by the resident site engineer
who will also have some
responsibility
over
the
installation and testing of the
permanent works
A falsework supervisor is likely
to be responsible for the
falsework installation
