The following guidance documents provide a comprehensive list of British Standard’s (BS) and
European Norm’s (EN) for temporary works equipment used in the construction industry.
TWf Information Sheet No 9 Temporary works
equipment – design to Eurocodes provides
general guidance to the temporary works
designer, and others such as clients, PD’s and
contractors on the application of European
Norm’s (EN) and British Standard’s (BS) to
temporary works. Available as a free
download from the TWf Library.

The following are selected performance and design standards for a range of commonly used
temporary works equipment used in the construction industry available to purchase from BSI
Knowledge.
BS EN 12811 covers all scaffolding, access
equipment including trestle systems and
proprietary crash deck.

PAS 8812 provides guidance on the
application of European standards (EN) to the
design of temporary works and aimed at
structural and geotechnical designers of
temporary works, procurers, local authorities
and safety, quality and compliance managers.
It aims to establish a unified approach to
design during the construction process for
temporary works. Available to purchase from
BSI Knowledge.
BS EN 12812 gives performance requirements
for falsework and gives methods to design
falsework.
